Mi Goreng Grilled Cheese

Update: I submitted this image for a photo contest by Chabe Chili and won 1st Place!! What?!?! Feeling flattered and humbled and oh my goodness validated that this hobby of mine is recognized as my own personal little art project.

I always see instant ramen being used for fun twists like Grilled Cheese. But what if my favorite instant is Indomie Mi Goreng? Something I learned of long ago from my then Indonesian boyfriend (now Indonesian husband!).

And to get the nice color on the outside: mix Sambal with a little Kewpie Mayo and use that instead of butter! (Mayo is the way to go in general!) It’s nice and flavorful on the outside! Make your grilled cheese like you normally would!

Ingredients

  • Sambal Chili Sauce (ABC or Chabe)
  • Kewpie Mayo
  • Bread
  • Cheese Slices (eg. American, Monterey Jack, Mozzarella)
  • Cooked/Boiled Indomie Mi Goreng

Directions

  1. Combine Sambal Chili Sauce and Kewpie Mayo
  2. Sauce side down, grill in a Medium Hot Pan, when bread warmed through, add cheese, when cheese starts to melt, add some Mi Goreng noodles, flip and close up a sandwich, give it a couple flips and gently press to “glue it together”
